My poor black toe giving me a guilt-free Pancake Tuesday

I woke up this morning with a painful black toe.

Obviously, I must have run a marathon during my sleep. Where else would the black toe come from?

My last road half marathon was 3 months ago and yes, it ended with a black toe (big one, right foot). I don’t remember that it was hurting really, but it did look somewhat ugly. So I did what every girl runner does. I painted it with sparkly purple nail polish.

Yesterday, I decided to take off the nail polish to see what it looked like 3 months later! It still looked a tiny little bit bruised but not bad or ugly at all. And I forgot all about it.

At 2am I woke up with a painful toe (that was right after I completed my marathon in my sleep as you do). And it’s still hurting. Not sure if the 10-miler on Sunday caused the pain or taking the nail polish off.I kind of want to put nail polish right back on, hoping this will hide the pain…

Anyways, I guess that gives me a free pass today to skip the legs, bums and tums class and take a day of rest. I should feel bad about that, but somehow I don’t. Not even filled with guilt as tonight of course it’s Pancake Tuesday at my friend’s where I’ll carb and sugar load. Oops. πŸ™‚

Happy Pancake Tuesday!

  1. Mmmm… I think I need to put nail varnish on my upper thighs to see if that masks the red rawness…
… I’ll let you know how I get on.

  2. Ouch! Now I’m really glad I let the running store guy talk me into a larger shoe size than I wanted. [Me: This feels huge. Him: You’ll end up with a black toe. Me: But I like the shoe to feel snug! Him: Tie the laces tighter.]

    • My shoes are good. I have only ever gotten a black toe after a race that had steep downhills. That’s when my toes I guess move forward too much. Maybe I need to tie my laces tighter…

      • That’s a tough one, I don’t think tighter laces would help much on a steep downhill. Maybe some form of extra padding around the toe? Just speculating at this point, I’m really new to this πŸ™‚

  3. You are a true runner with a black toe!! Odd how it flared up over night but hopefully it gets better soon. Definitely a good excuse to paint your nails πŸ™‚

  4. I always keep my toe nails painted, the only way to hide the bruises!

  5. I hope it heals quickly, I hate foot/toe injuries so much. What a bummer =(

Enjoy your pancakes. That sounds so good right about now!
