It’s always funny how life gets in the way of your plans.
My plan was to start running again this week, well, on Monday to be precise. Life had something else in plan… After a weekend of celebrations (it was my birthday after all) with Texas-style BBQ, great English breakfast, yummy cupcakes, the actual birthday dinner didn’t go quite that well. I got food poisoning. The restaurant we went to was a vegetarian restaurant. Proof that vegetarian food isn’t always healthy! 😉
I treated myself with the usual: bananas, salted pretzels and coca-cola. Yesterday, I was able to eat a proper meal again, so I think I am ok now. The whole episode though got me intrigued.
How can coca-cola be good for you?
- We all know that if you drop mentos into a bottle of diet coke, it causes an explosion.
- If you leave something rusty overnight soaking in coke it is all shiny again the next morning.
- Apparently, if you need to de-skunk, showering in coke will do the trick.
So, how can the same thing be good for you on an upset stomach?
After some research, all the trusted health sources say, do NOT drink caffeinated soda on an upset stomach. It may cause more upset, etc. I think that’s great advice.
However, I drank a bottle of coke and it didn’t do me any harm. The carbs and sugar were probably good for my body after having been depleted of all nutrients. Saying that though, a bottle of Gaterode would have most likely done the same trick.
But then, my mom always made me drink coke and eat salted pretzels when I was sick as a child, there is some comfort in that. 🙂
In case you want to know what else coke can be used for, here is an interesting post on top 10 unusual uses for coca-cola. This is actually far more likely than the WebMD or MayoClinic articles to make me stop drinking coke next time…
Have a healthy week!
