How to establish healthy eating habits?

Add calories to the menu!

I think I hate those Californians! Oh well, maybe not really, since I guess I am one of them now too. I am still in temporary housing and don’t have all my kitchen stuff yet and I love exploring places and revisiting old favorites, so I am eating out sometimes.

burgerThe other day I drove by Five Guys and thought that I should eat a burger for old time’s sake. So what happened? They put calories on their menu. How am I supposed to enjoy a burger when I know how many calories one has?

Then I thought, ok, let’s go to Baja Fresh and try a quesadilla. 1200-1400 calories? Seriously, who still wants to eat one?  So maybe putting calories on the menu does help make better choices?

So for my visit to In-N-Out Burger I have a plan: I will take off my glasses before I enter the store and order a burger animal style blissfully ignorant of its content. 😉

  1. Haha, by putting calories on the menu don’t you think they will sell less??? I have come across one restaurant in London with the calories on their dessert list. I ended up sharing a dessert because I found one for myself far too much. I do hope you enjoyed your burger not knowing how many calories. Anyway you will be running it off soon… 🙂

  2. I like the idea of putting on calories on the menus, they are slowly doing that here in the east coast. Hopefully once people see what they putting in themselves it will encourage healthier eating choices. One burger now and then is good for you – as long as you eat it standing up then all the calories go straight down and don’t attach themselves to your hips – I forget who told me that but I like their way of thinking!! 🙂
