5 things I learned already in 2015

This past week has been trying. It was the first week this year so far where I struggled prioritizing self-care. I started my “100 Days of Happiness” at the start of the year to learn getting into the habit of taking care of myself. For me this means ensuring adequate me-time to focus on doing things that are important to me.

How did I do so far?

Well, I learned 5 things already this year

2015 – My intentions

This year I wanted to break from the usual. I deliberately didn’t set any goals for myself, or resolutions, or challenges. I wanted a blank space. A white page to grow from, explore and spread my wings to wherever they take me.

For the past 2-3 years, I have been in a state of transition. A transition of which I have no idea where it will take me. Not a physical change or a change of location, but a different way of thinking. I have started recognizing my values and see very clearly where my actions don’t align with my values. I feel like I am in my time of enlightenment or awakening.

Finding yoga…

I started taking yoga classes.

I disliked my life.  Actually, I did not dislike my life. I did some amazing things in 2014, but I was stressed. And I could no longer live this way. So I sat down with myself and tried to find a way to decrease the stress I felt.

To beat procrastination, focus on the outcome

You all know how it is: everything else seems more interesting than to get started on what you really want to do. And, yes, I say what you really want to do. You do want to go the gym, or clean out your closet, or call your parents, or read that book. But somehow you can’t get started.

Self care – 6 steps to a better you

Give yourself permission to take care of yourself. It’s straight forward, if you can’t take care of yourself, how will you be able to take care of others?
We are often brought up with a mindset of a good person is someone who puts others before themselves. In my mind there is a fundamental flaw with this idea. How can you take care of your family, your partner, your work, if you are not taking care of yourself?

Finding balance in life – 3 questions I am pondering

Last week I attended a womens’ networking lunch discussing the topic of work/life balance and how to juggle all the balls in the air.

I find this topic fascinating and disappointing at the same time.

Many of these discussions talk about how to balance having a family and having a career. It’s a fair discussion. However, many of my friends and I don’t have a family or kids and we still struggle with finding balance in our lives. This makes me wonder is the struggle really about work/life balance or are we missing something else in our lives?

There are three questions (or their answers really) that I am curious about:
