The Pumpkin Chase 5K and 30K Virtual Race benefiting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is starting today! Don’t get spooked and sign up here: No Heels Just Sneakers – Virtual Races
I loved my first virtual race so much that I thought I’d do it again! In April I raised over $1,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I would like to top this in June!
How does this work?
You can chose:
- Run or walk a 5K fun run any time in June and enjoy the midnight sun! Take your kids, your spouse, your best friend and run or walk together!
- Run or walk 30K in June. Run or walk 1K every evening and enjoy the midnight sun or break up the 30K any way you like. 30K is 18.64 miles.
How much will this cost?
$25 entry (profits will go to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society). $30 for participants outside the USA.
What does my registration fee get me?
- the pride and joy of ditching the coach and enjoying summer nights outside
- a customized running bib
- a specially designed Midsummer Sun Kilomathon medal
- serious bragging rights!
- knowing that you helped find a cure for cancer! 100% of profits got to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society!

Short version: I loved it!
I «directed» my first virtual race in April – This Chick Loves To Run (for a cure) – to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
With the support of all participants we raised over $1,000 for LLS! In my books that’s pretty awesome.
My goals were:
- To raise funds for LLS
- To create a supportive community via Facebook and G+
- To ensure all participants enjoy the experience
- To have an awesome medal for all runners
I won’t lie. It was hard work. I was trying to create inspiring posts in the communities most days, reading every post, responding to every post.
But I also don’t lie when I say it was one of the most rewarding months I had this year!
I loved the creative process of coming up with a medal design with my friend Arek. I loved it when participants posted in the communities. I loved it when people told me how much they liked the medal.
I don’t know if everyone who participated had a great experience or loved the medal, but I do hope so. And the feedback that I have received was as overwhelmingly positive.
Thank you all, who joined in to make this such a rewarding experience for me and for the cause!
You made this experience ridiculously amazing for me!!
I am sooo excited!!
The medals for my virtual race – This Chick Loves To Run – arrived today!
The UPS guy knocked on my door. I saw the box. I picked it up. I waited.
I was scared! Very scared!
I looked at the closed box for an hour. In my mind I was playing over and over again the question “What if the medal is horrible?”
Well, I shouldn’t have doubted the ability of my friend Arek who designed the medal and Crown for executing the order perfectly!
The medal is adorable!
I know I am biased, but this is the cutest medal ever!

On Tuesday our virtual race – the 2014 This Chick Loves To Run (For A Cure) – will start and I would love for you to join me!
This is an awesome opportunity for you to
– get off the coach!
– earn a great medal!
– raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society!
The race lasts throughout April and you can earn a beautiful medal by participating!
This is how it goes:
Run or walk 5K, 10K or a kilomathon (26.2K) in April to earn a beautiful medal. No need to worry about all the Easter chocolate that may come your way in April! You’ll run it off!
You can run or walk your miles anywhere you like. You can walk backwards, do cartwheels, stick your tongue out while running, hopscotch. No judgement!
You can run, walk, skip, hopscotch or cartwheel the distance in one day or take a whole month to complete it. You don’t have to set up an alarm or run in the rain. You have perfect conditions for every race!
Once you have completed your distance, post your accomplishments with a photo on the dedicated No Heels Just Sneakers Facebook page (only open to registered participants) or the G+ community page and give yourself a pat on the back for doing something great for your health while supporting an important cause.
What are you waiting for? 🙂

I would love to see you join! Happy running!
After the first 10 minutes you don’t know anymore that you are running in the rain. It is the first few minutes while I am getting wet that are the dreaded minutes. Once I am wet I can run miles and miles in the rain.
As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, it’s been raining and I have been out running in the rain a few times and it’s only half as bad as you may think… There are reasons to run in the rain. One of them is that the trails are empty. This past Saturday we ran a pretty much empty trail and had some rainy views from the top of a hill that we never ran up before. Therefore, by default the (never seen before) views became AMAZING (even looking down on to a highway in the rain…). 🙂
We need rain in California and you can see that the reservoir is still pretty low. You can also see the highway and yes, we ran all the way up from there! In the rain!! RUNNING HEROES! 😉 Elevation gain on our run was over 1300 feet, which was more than the Austin Half Marathon that I ran 2 weeks ago.
This brings me to my next topic: The Austin Half Marathon. I already wrote a full race recap of the Austin Half Marathon and it was a fun race. Half marathon #22 and third race of the year! I am starting to get burned out of racing already and skipped a race this weekend and though the medal was great, I don’t feel I missed out. Instead I went shopping and bought 2 gorgeous dresses, but I am digressing…
A fun project I have been working on is my next fundraiser in support of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I have created a virtual race for the month of April and would love for you all to check it out. The medal looks great, but see for yourself.

A friend of mine created the design of the medal and I think it looks beautiful. All proceeds go to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
